1973- Hiway Robber

Casting Details
The 1973 Hot Wheels Hiway Robber is a fun example of how the Redline era was evolving in the early ’70s. Originally released as The Hood in 1971, the casting returned in 1973 under the Hiway Robber name, this time without the opening roof feature.
By 1973, Hot Wheels had moved away from Spectraflame paint and into solid enamel colors, giving this model a very different look compared to earlier Redlines. Another notable update was underneath — the base was modified to accommodate the change to “through hole” style wheels. Crush protectors were added at the rear, along with anti-rub “nibs” at both the front and rear to help protect the body from wheel wear.
It’s a neat snapshot of a transitional year for Hot Wheels, showing both design carryovers and the practical changes happening behind the scenes.
