1971- Racer Rig

Check out this classic Redline—the Racer Rig! Released in 1971, this casting stood out as one of the few Hot Wheels with a detachable trailer, making it a favorite among kids who loved action and movement in their play. The Racer Rig came with a cab and a rear race car hauler, which could carry one of your other Hot Wheels right on its back.

What makes it even more unique is the metal cab with a plastic trailer—a combination that kept it lightweight but still solid. It was part of the Heavyweights series, which featured larger vehicles with utility designs like dump trucks, cement mixers, and rigs like this one.

It was originally offered in several Spectraflame colors, but orange and green versions tend to be the hardest to find today. Like many early 70s castings, the Racer Rig didn’t stay in production long, so mint examples or complete rigs can be a great addition to any collection.

A fun piece of Hot Wheels history that captures the spirit of Redline creativity and playability!
