Released in 1969, the Classic ‘36 Ford Coupe was one of four new models introduced as part of Hot Wheels’ original “Classics” series. Mattel based the casting on the iconic 1936 Ford 3-window Coupe rather than the more common 5-window version, giving it a distinctive look that has made it a favorite among collectors.
The real 1936 Ford Coupe was popular in its day thanks to its dependable flathead V8 engine and rear rumble seat for extra passengers. Decades later, it remains a favorite among restorers and custom car builders, with beautifully customized examples still appearing at car shows across the country.
One neat detail on the Hot Wheels casting is that the only applied detail paint is the orange-red paint on the taillights, with the rest of the car letting the Spectraflame finish and clean body lines do the talking.
