The Snake II is one of the most iconic Hot Wheels dragsters of the Redline era, part of the legendary “Snake & Mongoose” rivalry. Released in 1971, it was modeled after Don “The Snake” Prudhomme’s funny car that tore up drag strips in real life. Hot Wheels worked directly with Prudhomme and Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen, creating cars and playsets that captured their famous battles on the quarter-mile.

The engine of the Snake II is a separate piece that is riveted to the base, holding the plastic wheel strip in place. It was paired against the Mongoose II to let kids recreate the rivalry at home. These cars came with special sets like the Drag Race Set and the Wild Wheelie Set, making them some of the most recognizable Hot Wheels of the era.
